Polyurethane Foam's 5 Places in Our Lives
Before explaining where polyurethane foam is used in our daily lives, it would be more accurate to explain what polyurethane foam is.

Before looking at where polyurethane foam fits into our lives, it's worth first explaining what polyurethane foam actually is.
Polyurethane foam is a single-component, semi-rigid aerosol material that cures with moisture in the air and expands in volume as it cures. Its most common uses are mounting, joint filling, and insulation. It's available in multiple variants, with a polyurethane foam suited to every need.
Polyurethane foam is used in many areas — let's take a closer look at 5 places it fits into our lives:
- Door and Window Installation: Polyurethane foam, one of the most widely used materials in construction, is heavily used when installing doors and windows. It wouldn't be wrong to say that doors and windows mounted onto the building's rough opening couldn't be properly attached to our homes without PU foam.
- Thermal Insulation in Construction: Polyurethane foam is also an indispensable element of insulation, another key construction topic. Usable at every stage of thermal insulation, PU foam is applied between water pipes to prevent heat loss from hot and cold water lines. It is likewise used between roof tiles to reduce contact between indoor and outdoor air, preventing heat loss. Polyurethane foams have repeatedly proven themselves to be user-friendly when it comes to energy savings.
- Sound Insulation: Sound insulation has become one of the most important topics in recent times. As population grows and noise levels rise proportionally, minimizing noise has become a widely used method in both homes and workplaces. Just as with thermal insulation, polyurethane foams are also used for sound insulation. As is well known, sound travels through matter. The reason we can't hear sounds in space is the absence of any medium to carry them. Polyurethane foams insulate — that is, absorb — sound during this transmission, minimizing sound transfer between spaces.
- Cold Storage Facilities and Freezer Rooms: Similar to the topic covered above, this is another example of thermal insulation. While the insulation cases mentioned earlier apply between environments with relatively small temperature differences, in this case polyurethane foam is used for much greater insulation needs. To prevent spoilage of products stored in cold storage facilities and freezer rooms, both heat and material exchange with the outside environment must be cut off. Once again, polyurethane foam comes to the rescue. PU foam prevents heat and material exchange, protecting stored goods from damage. Already known for delivering savings in many applications, PU foam also helps prevent significant losses in this case.
- On the Decks of Ships and Yachts: Properly applied and fully cured polyurethane foam is one of the most efficient water-insulation tools available. It is also widely used on the decks of ships and yachts. While minimizing wear and damage caused by water, it does not lose its grip upon contact with water, making it difficult for bonded parts to separate. It delivers long-lasting results in use, proving time and again to be an ergonomic product in every application.
